Ella Arthur was born and raised in Gisborne, and her roots in Tairāwhiti have strongly shaped both her values and her aspirations. She recently completed her second year of a Bachelor of Dental Surgery at the University of Otago, where she is working toward a career dedicated to supporting the oral health and wellbeing of her communities. As a Mātai intern in both 2024–2025 and 2025–2026, she has contributed to locally driven research while deepening her understanding of how science, healthcare, and community impact intersect. Ella is enthusiastic about continuing to build the skills that will support her future mahi as a dentist and reinforce her commitment to giving back to Tairāwhiti.
Mātai is a registered Charitable Trust (CC56831) undertaking not-for-profit medical imaging research in Gisborne-Tairāwhiti, Aotearoa-New Zealand.
