Ms Huti Puketapu-Watson (Ngati Porou, Tainui) is a Senior Fellow of the Atlantic Fellowship for Social Equity (AFSE) and has over 25 years’ experience in health promotion and development in Indigenous communities in Australia and Aotearoa. Huti has previously held roles as Chair and Deputy Chair of the Ngāti Porou Hauora Board (Māori health provider) for 12 years, and is currently engaged in the establishment of Ngati Porou Oranga. Other governance roles include: Co-Chair of the Iwi Māori Partnership Board “Toitu Te Ora Tairāwhiti”, Chair of the Aotearoa Genomic Variome Project, Variant Bio’s Ethics Advisory Board (EAB), member of the Aotearoa Genomics Health Alliance (AGHA), and member of the International Union for Health Promotion and Education (IUHPE) Global Working Group on Waiora: Planetary Health and Human Wellbeing. Huti has a particular focus on the protection of Māori rights and traditional knowledge in the biomedical sciences in Aotearoa NZ.
