Dr Saralyn MacKenzie

Dr. Saralyn MacKenzie is a distinguished American-born internist with extensive experience in internal medicine, currently serving as a Consultant Physician at Hauora Tairāwhiti in Gisborne, New Zealand. She holds a Medical Degree from the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine (1995) and completed her Internal Medicine residency at Boston University Medical Center (1995–1998). Dr. MacKenzie is board-certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine, with certifications obtained in 1999, 2009, and 2019.

In 1998, Dr. MacKenzie founded and directed the Hospitalist Program at Cape Cod Hospital in Hyannis, Massachusetts, pioneering one of the first such programs in the United States. She held leadership roles, including Chief of Staff and Vice Chief of Staff, and was actively involved in various committees, such as the Quality Committee and Patient Safety Committee.

Since relocating to New Zealand in 2009, Dr. MacKenzie has been a Consultant Physician at Gisborne Hospital, where she has held multiple leadership positions, including Clinical Director and Head of the Department of Medicine. She has been instrumental in implementing the Midland Clinical Portal, enhancing clinical information access across multiple District Health Boards.

Dr. MacKenzie is also the Chair of the Research Advisory Board at the Mātai Medical Research Institute, as well as the Clinical Liaison contributing to advancing medical research in the region.

 

Throughout her career, Dr. MacKenzie has demonstrated a commitment to excellence in internal medicine, medical education, and healthcare leadership, significantly impacting patient care and medical practice both in the United States and New Zealand.
