Dr Ayah Elsayed

Senior Research Fellow

Dr Ayah Elsayed is a Senior lecturer and at the Auckland University of Technology and a researcher with the Auckland Bioengineering Institute. Trained initially in vascular surgery, she transitioned to academic research after a decade in clinical practice, completing her PhD at the University of Auckland on four-dimensional (4D) flow cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR). Her work focuses on translating advanced imaging technologies, particularly 4D Flow CMR into clinical and digital health applications that improve patient outcomes.

Ayah’s research explores cardiovascular and cerebral hemodynamics across different cardiac conditions, combining 4D flow imaging with computational modelling and digital twin development. Her recent studies investigate aortic flow patterns and their relationship to cardiac function, aiming to inform personalised diagnostic and therapeutic strategies.

At Mātai, Ayah is working on cardiac modelling within the Tairāwhiti Child Wellbeing Study, aiming to better understand cardiac development in children as they grow. This work involves nurturing collaboration with tamariki and whānau , ensuring that the research reflects community values and contributes meaningfully to health outcomes in Aotearoa.
