Unlike the short appointments you may be used to with your GP, this consultation is 60–90 minutes long, allowing time for a detailed review of your health and personal concerns.
During your consultation, we will:
Review your complete medical history and current health concerns
Conduct a thorough clinical assessment (including a physical exam if clinically appropriate) Review all current medications and treatments
Discuss preventative health measures appropriate for your age and risk factors
Provide evidence-based recommendations for your ongoing health management

Dr Saralyn MacKenzie, MD
Dr Saralyn MacKenzie is a highly experienced Internal Medicine Specialist with over 25 years of clinical and leadership experience across the US and New Zealand. Trained at Boston University and the University of Cincinnati, she founded one of the first hospitalist programmes in the USA and later became Chief of Staff at Cape Cod Hospital. Since moving to Gisborne in 2009, she has been a Consultant Physician at Te Whatu Ora Tairāwhiti and has held multiple leadership roles, including Clinical Director and Head of Medicine. Dr MacKenzie plays a key role in bridging research and clinical care, helping translate innovative science into real-world health outcomes.

Dr Daniel Cornfeld, MD, FRANZCR
Dr Daniel Cornfeld brings world-class expertise to Mātai as Clinical Lead and Head of Imaging, with a career spanning academic, clinical, and translational imaging research. He holds an AB in Physics from Princeton University and earned his Doctorate in Medicine from the University of Maryland. Before joining Mātai, Dr Cornfeld served as Chief of Abdominal MRI and Associate Professor of Radiology at Yale University, where he led pioneering work in advanced MRI techniques and mentored the next generation of radiologists. He has extensive experience in clinical trial design, imaging technology validation, and the integration of novel diagnostic tools into clinical practice.
