Weekly seminar: The wonderful weirdness of parallel imaging

Speakers

Dr Samantha Holdsworth

Topic

In this talk, Samantha takes on the thrillingly named topic of parallel imaging and simultaneous multi-slice MRI, which may sound painfully boring, but are actually one of the clever tricks that make modern MRI faster, smarter, and more useful.

No advanced maths knowledge is needed: Samantha will aim to explain things as holistically and intuitively as possible, with minimal equations and minimal physics trauma. Along the way, you’ll also get a glimpse into how MRI works more generally, including the mysterious and wonderful world of k-space – one of the most important (and confusing) ideas in MRI.

Using simple explanations and practical examples, this session is for anyone who has heard terms like “acceleration,” “parallel imaging,” “SMS,” “HyperBand,” “GRAPPA,” or “SENSE” and thought: What on earth are people talking about?
