Summer Internships

The Mātai Summer Internship Programme is a 10-week immersive summer programme that gives undergraduate students hands-on experience in health and medical research while supporting their growth as emerging professionals and future leaders. The programme combines real-world research projects with a wider learning experience designed to connect science, community, matāuranga Māori, and career development.

Careers Day

In 2025 Mātai hosted our first interactive careers day for local Year 12–13 high school students, designed to help them understand what it means to be a researcher or scientist, and to bring the health sciences to life.

The day was organised into career and science stations with hands-on experiences and talks, to bring the topics to life thanks to activities organised by Mātai, Tōnui Collab, the Auckland Bioengineering Institute, Health NZ Tairāwhiti, FACT-First Aid & CPR Training, TBI Health, and Geneva Health.

The 2026 Careers Day will be held in September.
