Sergio Dempsey
Clinical Scientist – MRI GE HealthCare
Sergio Dempsey is a biomedical engineer and GE Clinical Scientist based at Mātai, with a strong background in MRI post-processing software development. His doctoral research focused on using MRI to identify early indicators of dementia by investigating cerebrovascular dynamics such as cerebral autoregulation and neurovascular coupling.
He developed and validated a 4D flow MRI post-processing software package that is now used by international research groups. Sergio is passionate about scientific communication, MRI software integration, and harmonising MRI sequences across national studies. His role supports Mātai and GE HealthCare in delivering several cutting-edge research projects.
Based in Gisborne, Sergio works closely with Mātai Institute’s clinical and research teams to advance GE MRI capabilities and contribute to innovative imaging research.
