Dr Mark Bydder

Senior Research Fellow

About

Mark Bydder is a physicist and research scientist specializing in the development and optimization of advanced Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) techniques. With a career spanning several leading academic and medical institutions, he is recognized for his contributions to enhancing image quality and diagnostic accuracy in clinical neuroscience and radiology.

Professional Experience & Research
Mark currently serves as a Senior Fellow at the Mātai Medical Research Institute. His work focuses on pushing the technical boundaries of medical imaging, specifically through:

  • Advanced Pulse Sequences: Development of dSIR (divided subtracted inversion recovery) sequences to reveal subtle neurological abnormalities invisible to conventional MRI.
  • Ultrahigh Contrast: Exploring technical developments to increase the contrast between tissues based on very small tissue-property differences.
  • Multinuclear Imaging: Researching concurrent X-nuclei and H-nuclei imaging for specialized applications in brain and kidney diagnostics.
  • Image Reconstruction: Innovating in k-space estimation and motion-correction algorithms to produce clearer, more reliable medical data.
  • Quantitative Imaging: Accurate modeling of relaxation effects and the dependence of tissue properties on the applied RF fields.
